"Some of my first watercolors were of fall
weeds so it was a natural move to painting them after a snowfall. The first wet snow of the season
is the most emotionally touching to me, as if you're witness to the whole autumn scene fading away
into winter in just a short time. The main feature of the composition are Joe Pye weeds. I have no
idea what's behind the name, but they're a favorite subject in my fall paintings because of their
leaf patterns and fluffy tops. The blossoms are magenta colored in summer and the seed pods hang on
into winter and often catch the soft snowflakes until the wind blows them off."
