"This is the large flowered Trillium - one of
several types found in Minnesota. It is a common and conspicious flower found in open woods and the
edges of woodlands. The large white petals may be several inches long. They are a fascinating
subject for transparent watercolor as no white paint is used - only the white of the paper shows
through as the petals. The trillium in this painting were found in the St. Croix River Valley of
Minnesota and Wisconsin where the blue phlox also bloom at the same time and add a blue color note to
