"When I was in high school I enrolled with an
art correspondence school in Minneapolis known as Art Instruction, Inc. We had no art classes in our
high school so my studies with Art Instruction were probably the main reason I went on to study art
in college. They honored me by printing this painting on the cover of their 75th anniversary Spring
1989 issue of the Illustrator along with a feature article on my work.
The subject of the painting is a spot on the northern part of the Mississippi River with a bit of fog
lifting off the distant shore and the morning sun breaking through. Some wild roses add their color
to the June morning."
