"This is morning on the trail when the winter sun warms the woods to
a nice glow complimented by long blue shadows. After skiing a bit to get one's body furnace going, it is quite comfortable
to stop and sketch for a few minutes. It's my favorite way of gathering ideas for my winter paintings. I'm not much for
speed on the trail, but I doubt that anyone enjoys their skiing more than I do. The title of the painting comes from a
cross-country trail northeast of Grand Rapids, MN, in the heart of some of Minnesota's most scenic North Country."
